About the Event
Join the Human Trafficking Task Force of Southern Colorado for our first ever online symposium. In this year of upheaval, our passion is to see a Breakaway from human trafficking and the demand that fuels it.
Networking will begin at 8:45 am.
Speakers:
9:00 am The face of human trafficking has changed in 2020. How did perpetrators profit from COVID-19? Megan Lundstrom, survivor leader and Executive Director of the Avery Center will discuss the impact of the pandemic on the sex trade, including economic hardship, online pornography usage, racism, legislative changes, and hope for a Breakaway from exploitation in human trafficking.
10:00 am Understanding the experience of those who have been exploited is key to knowing how to support them in their Breakaway journey out of "the life." Hear from lived experience expert Jessa Dillow Crisp, executive director of BridgeHope, as she addresses "Engaging with Survivors through a Complex Trauma Lens."
11:00 am Modeling Equality is a program headed by Peter Qualliotine that will address a Breakaway from norms that reinforce men's perceived entitlement to buy sexual access to other's bodies. Modeling Equality is based on the recognition that commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) is a form of gender-based violence. This program grows from work Mr. Qualliotine helped pioneered in Seattle with the Ending Exploitation Collaborative and as co-founder and director of men's accountablility with the Organization for Prostitution Survivors (OPS), where he instituted a sex buyer education program.
